Meet Our Team
Eva Mackey Meyrat, MD was born in Austin, Texas. Much of her childhood was spent abroad with her mother but when not traveling she was in Austin. She did her undergraduate degree at St. Edward’s University in Austin and moved to Galveston to attend medical school at The University of Texas Medical Branch. Dr. Eva did her residency at St. Anthony’s Family Medicine Residency in Denver, CO and has received her board certification in Family Medicine.
Dr. Eva has been practicing Family Medicine in the Rockwall/Rowlett/Garland/Mesquite area for the past 19 years. Prior to opening her own practice, she worked for the Baylor Family Health Center of Mesquite. Dr. Eva’s dream is to provide high quality primary care that focuses on the needs of the patient and eliminates the bureaucratic hassles that plague our healthcare system. Dr. Eva strongly believes that quality care should be affordable and accessible to all patients regardless of their insurance status. She left Baylor in 2017 to pursue her dream and opened Gem MD.
Dr. Eva enjoys cycling, running, skiing and crochet. She also loves to spend time with her four great kids and husband. Dr. Eva volunteers for the International Cultic Studies Association (ICSA) where she helps individuals who have escaped from cults heal from the damaging effects of group psychological abuse.
Gilda Martin, APRN, FNP-C was born in Frankfurt, Germany where her father was stationed in the Army. She traveled for the first 9 years of her life and then settled in San Antonio, TX. Subsequently she moved to Dallas – Fort Worth. She has been married for 32 years and raised four children in the Dallas area. Each of her adult children are scattered throughout Texas. Her oldest daughter and oldest son are married while her two youngest are pursuing their careers. She hopes to add ‘grandparent’ to her list of accomplishments someday.
Gilda has been a registered nurse since 1988. She attended the University of Texas at Arlington where she graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Her last position was in home health taking care of high acuity intensive care pediatric patients. However, she has also worked with adults in intensive care, post-anesthesia care units, and geriatrics. Each of these roles provided both experience and leadership qualities as she had to work independently making decisions based on the immediate needs of her patients. She also worked as a nurse in summer camps for children from 1st – 12th grades and taught high school science, English, P.E., and Philosophy in a homeschool cooperative.
Gilda earned her Master of Science: Family Nurse Practitioner at United States University in San Diego, CA. in April of 2021 where she graduated, “With Distinction” at the top of her class. Gilda is a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner who desires to provide quality care. Direct Primary care allows the time necessary to fully accommodate her patients while providing affordable care. She is excited to be a part of Gem MD.
Julie Roy, FNP is a dedicated healthcare professional from Kerala, India. She later relocated to the US, residing in Orlando, FL; and Chicago, IL; before settling in the DFW area. She is a mother of four who enjoys embarking on adventures and exploring new cuisines with her husband and four children.
Julie's academic journey includes earning her nursing degree in 1999 in New Delhi, India; followed by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Loyola University Chicago and a Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Texas Women's University in 2023. She obtained her critical care certification in 2012.
With a wealth of experience, Julie previously served as an eICU RN, providing remote care to critically ill patients across multiple states for three years. Prior to this role, she worked for six years as a Cardiovascular Intensive Care nurse at Baylor Scott and White Heart Hospital in Plano, TX. Throughout her career Julie has excelled as a mentor, preceptor, and charge nurse; consistently delivering exceptional care to patients with varying needs.
Julie's mission is to focus on preventive care and create an inclusive and cost-effective healthcare setting to empower patients to lead fulfilling lives without financial burdens.
Carmi Roque, RN, has been a licensed nurse in the Philippines for almost a decade. She has always known for her passion for excellence. She carries out her tasks with accuracy and speed.
Prior to working for Gem MD, Carmi has been involved in public service at the national level. She worked for the social welfare and development arm of the Philippines government executive branch. There she was assigned to manage program implementation and monitor policy adherence on the flagship program for poverty alleviation in that country.
Since then she has her earned national certificate in medical transcription and joined the team of Gem MD as a healthcare virtual assistant. She is committed to assisting patients with their healthcare needs while bringing a positive and friendly energy to the practice. In her spare time, Carmi enjoys outdoor adventures with her friends.
Katherine Tom MS, RDN, LD, CDCES is a Registered Dietitian with twenty years experience serving children and adults with complex endocrine, digestive and developmental conditions. She is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist. As one of the first disciplines in South Carolina to adopt tele-health in 2009, Katherine participated in Congressional and state legislative advocacy for increased patient access to Registered Dietitians. She has shared her nutrition knowledge through numerous publications and papers including Therapy Times magazine, MyFitnessPal, and “All Things Considered” via National Public Radio.
Prior to joining Gem MD, Katherine was the Director of Nutrition at the Cooper Clinic where she provided nutrition counseling to adults and led a team of dietitians in the preventative wellness space. She also oversaw the multi-disciplinary and medically supervised weight loss program. Katherine earned a Bachelors of Science and Masters of Nutrition at Winthrop University.
Because no two bodies are the same, Katherine brings a precision nutrition and evidenced-based approach to her nutrition counseling. She honors the individuality that comes with a person’s eating habits and helps those she works with fuel themselves to the best of their ability. When she is not working, Katherine enjoys spending time with her husband and two boys, traveling and long-distance running.
